Bihar has taken rapid strides in tobacco control since last eleven years. Socio Economic and Educational Development Society (SEEDS) is a national level non profit organization having strong presence in Bihar & Jharkhand state. SEEDS has forged Strong collaboration with the state government of Bihar and Jharkhand for comprehensive tobacco control in the state with the technical support from The UNION.

SEEDS has started its Tobacco Control journey since April 2010 as state partner of State Health Society, Bihar and recognized as an Anti Tobacco crusader. In last eleven years, SEEDS in collaboration with the Government’s State Tobacco Control Cell (STCC), has achieved many milestones. SEEDS has advocated and supported the government in passing policy decisions, orders and notifications to ensure implementation of tobacco control laws by different departments at state and district level.

Currently, SEEDS is partnering with the State Health Society, Government of Bihar and the District Tobacco Control cell of all 38 districts in Bihar state to ensure compliance with COTPA 2003 provisions at the district and sub-district levels with technical support from The UNION, South East Asia office, New Delhi.

SEEDS has also collaborated with State Tobacco Control Cell, Government of Jharkhand for technical support in the implimentation of Tobacco Control programme at state level as well as in six intervention districts viz. Bokaro, Dhanbad, East Singhbhum, Hazaribagh, Ramgarg and Ranchi with support from The UNION under Bloomberg Initiatives grant.
